Newhaven
Newhaven, in East Sussex is surrounded by chalk downland, including the famous Seven Sisters sea cliffs and the Cuckmere valley to its east and Peacehaven and Brighton to the West. The closest Channel port to Central London, the harbour sits at the mouth of the River Ouse, hosting a marina and a working fishing fleet. The main heritage attraction is Newhaven Fort, built in the 1860s to deter invaders. Today it offers a warm welcome to anyone looking a look into England’s dramatic wartime past.
Transmanche Ferries offer crossings from Newhaven to Dieppe all year round and up to three times a day. They operate two modern vessels on the route, Seven Sisters and the Côte d’Albâtre, taking four hours for the crossing to Dieppe in Upper Normandy. Dieppe is handily placed for onwards connections to Paris and the rest of Northern France.
LD Lines, the sister company of Transmanche Ferries also offers a seasonal service from Newhaven to Le Havre.
